On Thursday 6 May 2021, residents have the opportunity to vote for Councillors to represent their local area. Here's why you should vote for the Liberal Democrats.

During the pandemic, the Liberal Democrats team have supported residents and worked with community and voluntary groups across Rugby. Covid-19 has challenged us all and changed how we live and work. It has, however, also provided opportunities that we need to take advantage of. We must put mental health and families first along with accelerating our actions in tackling climate change. Our task as politicians is to lead our communities and build the foundations for the next generation. Liberal Democrats are calling for a Fairer, Caring and Greener Rugby. This builds upon the work that we have been doing in the Town Hall such as investigating a Town Council for Rugby under proposals for local government reform, protecting our green spaces, introducing a Private Rented Sector Charter to help tenants and support landlords, supporting volunteering and community groups, and a plastic free Council.

Our manifesto includes plans to reduce health inequalities through a local health strategy, ensure the Council's planning policies support reducing our carbon footprint and adopt an affordable housing strategy. Lib Dems will introduce new ways of tackling homelessness, create at least two new country parks, increase tree planting, establish a network of charging points for electric vehicles across the borough and install solar powered street furniture to make our communities safer. We will also create a cultural quarter in the town to promote the arts and hold an annual green festival that will celebrate the achievements of local groups and allow businesses to showcase the latest innovations that assist a transition to a greener local economy and what residents can do to help.

If you vote Liberal Democrats on 6 May, you'll get a local champion who will get things done in your community. You'll get a cleaner, greener neighbourhood where community recovery comes first, and local people are listened to.
