You’re paying the price for Conservative chaos

The Tories crashed our economy and sent mortgage bills spiralling. And now they are forcing everyone to pay the price for their incompetence - with more unfair tax rises, weaker public services, and the sharpest decline in living standards on record.

Today's cost of chaos budget (17 November 2022) will inflict untold pain on millions of ordinary people.

To add insult to injury, they have let oil and gas giants escape a proper windfall tax, whilst handing out billions of pounds in tax cuts to the big banks.

This Conservative Government is completely out of touch, and they have no plan to help people with their bills.

Our nation deserves better. That's why we're calling for a fairer deal for the British people by:

• Implementing a proper windfall tax on the bumper profits of the fossil fuel giants and closing loopholes that have allowed firms such as Shell to avoid paying a single penny.

• Introduce a new Mortgage Protection Fund to protect those most in need from losing their homes because of the Conservative Property Penalty, paid for by reversing the Conservatives' unfair and unnecessary tax cuts for the big banks.

• Lib Dems are also fighting to give renters more security and protect them from rogue landlords and unfair rent hikes.

• Protecting vital public services from yet more spending cuts.
